5 Things You Need to Know About Hair Extensions
You Need to Know These 5 Things Before Getting Hair Extensions!
Wonder how stars and influencers go from short bobs to Hollywood glam hairstyles overnight? We have one word for you, extensions. Extensions are great if you want longer or fuller hair but there are a few things you MUST know before getting extensions.
1. 100% Virgin Hair Vs Synthetic Hair:
When it comes to purchasing hair, you get what you pay for. Price will vary greatly based on quality of the hair, as well as the desired quantity (for thickness) and length. Brilliance Virgin (never-before-processed) human hair is the highest quality. The hair cuticle is preserved, instead of stripped, and all the hairs run in the same direction, maintaining that natural soft, silky texture. Synthetic hair is much cheaper, but won't blend or style the way human hair does. It can't withstand heat styling and tangles easily.
2. How Long Do Extensions Last?
With proper care (see below) hair extensions can last up to 3 to 4 months!
3. How Do I Care for My Extensions:
TLC is important! Hair Extensions should be cared for just like your natural hair, gently. Be extra careful when the hair is wet. Avoid tugging or yanking at the extensions while brushing. Instead, hold hair at the root, and begin detangling starting at the ends. You can use all of your favorite hair products, but keep oils away from the roots in order to prevent the bond, tape, or weave from slipping. At bedtime, put your hair in a loose braid so it doesn't get matted or tangled while you sleep.

4. What is a Hair Closure?
A closure is a hair piece that is typically made of lace or silk. This closure or hair piece is attached to a cornrow base and secured around the perimeter in order to help protect your hair. It also blends perfectly with your scalp and give a flat and smooth appearance. The size of a closure varies from 13 x 4” (also called ear to ear lace frontal) to 4 x 4” closure (typically shaped like a U).
5. Should I Use Lace or Silk Closure?
While there are benefits to both lace and silk closures, lace closures are more popular and for a good reason. Lace closures are thinner allowing them to lie flatter on your head, making the “line of demarcation” (where your scalp and closure meets) much less obvious. However, you may need to bleach lace closures to match your scalp where this step is typically not necessary for silk closures. We feel, bleaching the lace closure is a small price to pay for more natural looking extensions.
